If a police officer comes upon a dog running free, they are often times captured to prevent injury to the animal and minimize dangers to motorists and the public. If you dog has a valid dog license or rabies tag, we attempt to get in contact with you while your dog is kept at a temporary kennel at the Town Hall. We can only hold a dog for a few days until we transport them to the Dog Warden. The Ohio Revised Code defines a village as an incorporated area with a population of less than 5,000 people. New housing and population growth has resulted in Wellington getting close to this population level, and we anticipate that the next census in 2010 may reveal we have met the criteria to be considered a city. This change in status has a number of implications for the village and the Village Council, Mayor and Solicitor are preparing ways to deal with this change, including the possibility of creating a charter for the community so that it can determine the structure of the government instead of the structure dictated in the revised code.
