FIRE AT THE VILLAGE OF WELLINGTON WATER TREATMENT FACILITY
Last evening, at approximately 7pm, a fire started at the Wellington Water Treatment Plant. The source of the fire is under investigation.
The Wellington Fire Department fought the blaze into the early hours of the morning. The portion of the facility closest to Pitts Road, comprised of the testing lab and the office complex, was destroyed.
The plant's key operational components, including the filtration trains and the electronic control systems, were spared.
Wellington Water staff proactively coordinated with Rural Water to ensure system pressurization. Wellington Water and Wellington Electric are working to restore power to the facility to continue treating water.
Supplemented with Rural Water, we do not anticipate depressurization. The water is therefore safe for consumption.
Due to the lower filtration capacity, we are requesting all users curtail their water usage to ensure system reserves.
When more information from the investigation comes to light, we will provide additional updates.
Thank you for your cooperation in conserving water in the interim.
