                                    Rubbish Rules and Regulations – Village of Wellington 2025-2026 


What to put in the Trash Container:

All household generated garbage that will fit in the container with the lid closed. All household garbage must be bagged when placed in the container. Please be sure the lids are closed on the containers when placing at the curb. Please also be sure the metal bar on the container is facing the street. Containers must be at the curb the evening before your pickup day or by 6:00 AM on your pickup day. If you do not have your container out on time and you are missed, Republic Services will not return. In these instances, you will need to wait until the following week for trash removal. Please place containers on opposite sides of your driveway if possible. Please ensure containers are 3 feet away from any stationary objects for servicing by the automated trucks.

What not to put in the Trash Container:

Hazardous waste, paint, chemicals, motor oil, liquids, dead animals, hot ashes, car parts, tires, lithium batteries or car batteries. 

Recycling rules and Regulations:

  • Recyclable material should be placed loosely into the recycle container. Please rinse out any and all containers listed below.
  • ONLY RECYCLABLE MATERIAL SHALL BE PLACED IN THIS CONTAINER! DO NOT PLACE RECYCLABLE MATERIALS IN BAGS- PLACE THEM IN THE RECYCLING CONTAINER LOOSELY!

Acceptable materials:

  • Entire newspaper including inserts.
  • Aluminum, Steel and bi-metal cans, food, and beverage cans only
  • Glass: Bottles and Jars, food and beverage bottles only
  • Plastics: Food and beverage containers marked #1 thru #7
  • Plastic Detergent and soap containers: containers marked #1 thru #7.
  • Miscellaneous paper: Magazines, junk mail, cardboard, and paperboard (cereal and clean pizza boxes)
  • All kinds of cartons: Milk, Juice, etc.…
  • KNOW WHAT TO THROW- Your recycling container should contain only carboard, paper, metal cans, plastic bottles, and jugs.

Non-Recyclable Material:

  • Containers with excessive food or liquids still in the container
  • Containers that contained hazardous materials such as oil, pesticides, herbicides or anti-freeze
  • Styrofoam, aluminum foil, pie tins, etc.…
  • Window glass, mirrors, drinking glasses, light bulbs, ceramics, China, etc.…
  • Plastic bags, plastic wrap, flowerpots, toys etc.…
  • Scrap metal, car parts, batteries etc.…
  • Do not put any Yard Waste in recycle container.
  • Shredded paper

What if I have more trash than will fit in my Trash Container:

If you are taking advantage of the Recycling program in your community, most household trash will fit into the container provided. If necessary, you may have an option to have an additional container(s). There may be an additional fee for this increased service. Please contact Republic Services to discuss.

Yard Waste Regulations:

  • Grass clippings and other yard waste should be placed in brown paper bio-degradable bags or loose in 32gallon plastic cans clearly marked with “yard waste” or “YW” and not to exceed 35lbs. Small branches must be cut and bundled not to exceed 4ft in length or 35 lbs. Plastic bags, dirt, stone or branches larger than 4 inches in diameter will not be collected with yard waste. Yard waste will be collected year round with solid waste. Yard waste bags/cans in included in the bulk limitation. PLEASE NOTE OUR DRIVERS WILL NOT BE SENT BACK TO A RESIDENCE TO COLLECT YARD WASTE THAT WAS NOT PUT TO THE CURB PROPERLY.

Bulk Regulations:

Consider bulk as items that cannot be broken down and placed into Trash or Recycling containers IE: Household Furniture, Washer/Dryers, TV’s, tables, swing sets, mattress/box springs, chairs etc…

  • You may place additional bags of trash or trash containers out for your bulk pickup each month- not to exceed 6 items.
  • Christmas trees will be picked up on your normal collection day. Trees must be free of ornaments, tinsel and not enclosed in a bag. Trees larger than 4 ft must be cut in half.
  • Appliances: Refrigerators and freezers, DOORS REMOVED – FREON REMOVED and TAGGED by a certified technician
  • Any other Freon bearing appliance: Freon must be removed and TAGGED by certified technician.
  • Carpet and wood should be cut to 4ft lengths, no more than 40lbs and be rolled and tied/bundled together.
  • Boxes should be broken down, no longer than 4ft in length, weigh no more than 35lbs and must be tied/bundled.
  • Please ensure to completely wrap any mattress, box spring and/or upholstered furniture in plastic and seal with tape.

  • Weekly bulk pick up is limited to a limit of six (6) items/bags per contract. Large items can not exceed 100 lbs. in weight
  • Absolutely NO MOVE OUT/CLEAN OUT PILES WILL BE REMOVED.

  • The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) all consider bed bugs a public health pest. Any materials that have these present MUST be wrapped in plastic and sealed with tape in order for the items to be removed.

Please have all items to the curb no later than 6:00 am on your service day

Republic Services Holiday Schedule:

Services will be delayed by a day if your service day falls on or after the holiday.
